24-Hour hotline

Call our 24-hour hotline at (808) 524-7273

If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, call us for help. Trained SATC staff are on duty 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to provide confidential support, information, and advocacy on the phone.

How does the Sexual Assault Hotline work?

When you dial 808-524-7273 during business hours, a receptionist will connect you to one of the SATC's crisis workers. After regular business hours, weekends or holidays, your call is answered by Physician's Exchange who then contacts the crisis worker on call. The crisis staff will respond directly to you.

Are hotline calls completely confidential?

All calls are anonymous and confidential unless the caller chooses to share identifying information. You always have the choice of whether or not to share your real name or phone number with counselors. We will know who you are only if you choose to tell us.

However, if you disclose a sexual assault and share identifying information with a crisis worker, there may be legal mandates to report certain types of abuse (such as sexual assault of a minor by a family member). The SATC is legally required to notify authorities in these situations and confidentiality is therefore waived. Speak with the crisis worker about any concerns regarding waivers of confidentiality.

Safety Considerations

Our web chat is end-to-end encrypted. Therefore, only you and the crisis worker you're chatting with can read the content of the messages being sent. The content of the messages do not get saved anywhere on your device. Once you close the chat window, the history of messages will be gone.

However, there are still important safety risks to be aware of:

There is no technology anywhere that can prevent information from being read on a device that has a virus, malware, or spyware installed on it. If a spyware or virus program is able to record keystrokes or take screenshots every X number of seconds, there is nothing that can be done to make the device safe.

If you believe your device may have been compromised, it is safer to use another device to connect with us or call our 24-hour hotline at (808) 524-7273 from an unmonitored phone.

Bystander
Helping as a Bystander
I looked around saying to myself, Why is nobody intervening? Then I realized, I’m the bystander guy! I’ve facilitated dozens of trainings for students and communities on how to intervene in these types of situations. It dawned on me that I needed to do something.
