SATC’s 2018 Legislative Agenda
SATC is advocating for a number of measures during the 2018 Hawai‘i State Legislative Session. Here are some of the key pieces of legislation that SATC is supporting.
SATC Staff Advanced Training
SATC staff received advanced training in working with survivors in LGBTQ communities with Michael Munson, executive director of FORGE, a national technical assistance provider with respect to sexual violence issues affecting LGBTQ people, hosted by the Hawai‘i Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
SATC Receives “Top Cop” Award
The Law Enforcement and Security Coalition of Hawai‘i selected SATC to receive the Outstanding Association Award during the 33rd “Top Cop” Annual Law Enforcement/Security Awards Banquet.
Shots Film and Discussion Guide Training
SATC, in partnership with the Hawai‘i Coalition Against Sexual Assault, created the film “Shots.” The film is part of SATC’s [ r e s p e c t ]™ campaign, which aims to build healthy and safe relationships, environments and communities.
SATC Prevention and Education Presentation for the Hawai‘i Youth Services Network
SATC staff members attended the Hawai‘i Youth Services Network’s (HYSN) Quarterly Networking Membership Meeting on July 19, which focused on providing an overview of sexual violence in Hawai‘i.
University of Hawai‘i Law School Advocates in Public Interest Law Program
APIL was established by the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law’s Class of 1985 to address access-to-justice issues by promoting advocacy for underserved populations, including victims of abuse and violence.
Evaluation of SATC's Curriculum-Based Education Program by the CDC
SATC applied to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our curriculum-based education project was selected as one of 20 programs nationally that merited formal evaluation as a practice-based sexual violence prevention strategy.
Outreach and Education during Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2018
SATC was active at events recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2018, expanding our outreach and collaborations with community partners to spread a message of [respect]™ and creating a culture that prevents and appropriately responds to sexual violence.
Making It A Little Easier
Telling our stories is not an easy task. This is especially true for children, particularly if it involves sexual abuse. When children disclose and a police report is made, providing the details of the assault is a necessary part of the legal process.
